RMD UK is a nationwide community of students and educators united by a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, near-peer basic life support (BLS) education. Bringing together individuals who run RMD sites across UK Higher Education Institutions, the network fosters collaboration, innovation, and mutual support.
As a voluntary and free community, RMD UK enables members to share knowledge, develop their teaching and leadership skills, and contribute to a growing movement that has been shaping interdisciplinary healthcare education since its founding at the University of Birmingham in 1995. Together, we are strengthening the future of healthcare education through connection, shared purpose, and continuous development.
Life support skills save lives
Early recognition of life threatening problems and effective treatment is essential
Teach them widely and successfully
Fostering professional development & growth through trusted mentorship relationships, we invest time and commitment to provide advice and guidance to less experienced colleagues, building a stronger, more resilient group
Developing young adults with professional responsibility, leadership, team-working, and communication skills, and the ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations in a supportive, rewarding and enjoyable environment
At its core, RMD UK is dedicated to improving resuscitation education through a proven, near-peer teaching model. Sites across the country deliver consistent, high-quality BLS training, ensuring students gain the confidence and competence to respond effectively in critical situations. By sharing resources, best practices, and innovations between institutions, RMD UK helps maintain excellence and consistency in resuscitation training nationwide.
RMD UK creates a supportive environment where students can learn from one another and grow together. Through peer support between sites and institutions, members benefit from shared experiences, advice, and guidance. This mentorship extends beyond individual sites, fostering a national network where new and established RMD groups can collaborate, solve challenges, and support each other’s success.
Being part of RMD UK provides unique opportunities for personal and professional development. Members can become instructors, assessors, and leaders within their own sites, while also contributing to wider initiatives such as cross-site collaboration and research. The network promotes interdisciplinary learning across healthcare specialties, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement in teaching. By sharing progress and working together, RMD UK supports the growth of both individuals and institutions.
"Joining RMD UK allowed access to a group of experienced resuscitationists and experts who had already set up numerous life support courses previously; they anticipate and navigate otherwise unforeseen challenges, which was invaluable" -Dr Aaron Hewitt University of Brunel
